Characters and Uses:
The colorless, odorless, oily liquid, miscible with alcohol, ether, chloroform and benzene, slightly soluble in water and carbon disulfide. Mouth binder and spices fixing agent, solvent, tougheners used as a cigarette filter. And can be used in cosmetics, casting, medicine, dyes, and other industries. This product is non-toxic, non-irritating.
Nature Description: colorless oily liquid. The melting point of 4.1^οC, the boiling point of 258-259^οC, 130.5^οC (0.39kPa), the relative density of 1.1596 (20/4^οC), the refractive index 1.4301, flash point of 148.8^οC. With ethanol; ether; chloroform and benzene, slightly soluble in water and carbon disulfide. Bitter taste.
Production methods: by the esterification of glycerol with acetic acid. Glycerol was preheated to 50-60 ^οC, adding acetic acid; benzene and sulfuric acid. Was heated with stirring at reflux for dehydration, dehydration after the recovery of benzene, and then added acetic anhydride was heated 4h. After cooling with 5% sodium carbonate and pH to 7, the layer of water, crude oil dried with calcium chloride. Vacuum distillation, collecting 128-131^οC (0.93kPa) fractions, namely glycerol triacetate.
Uses: used as a perfume fixative, solvent, toughening. Used in cosmetics; the production of pharmaceuticals and dyes, plasticizers, etc. used as a cigarette filter rod.
